Speed Painting - Practice in Setting the Mood

This assignment from 3D Sets & Design was inspired by the wonderful movie, Bladerunner. We were told to combine the technical with the natural, as they had done in Bladerunner. The tree was born from these two concepts, and then set into six different panels. The goal was to paint the panels quickly to set the mood. Evidently, professionals in the movie feed will do this first, and then they will focus and develop one concept in particular during pre-production of games and movies. I fell in love with the bottom right tree, and would have developed this picture more.

Important Tip for fellow artists: When I was younger and first integrating with DA, there was a lot of stigma put on artists who dared to "reference," because if you have to reference then you are obviously inferior as an artist. As it turns out... professionals in the movie and game field love to reference and highly encourage it. So if somebody is criticizing you for referencing, don't listen to them.
